Stamina: Human lungs can draw 4 liters of air at one time but we take only half a liter!
Breathing
is the most important and comfortable process of life. But we are often lost in
the accounts of all accounts throughout the day; we often fail to keep track of
our breaths which are most important for life.
The knowledge is not lost yet; just think how you feel when
you are laughing, angry and sleeping on the
bed! In different bodily expressions, the speed of the breath varies; the long
breath of anger also differs in the quick laugh on the bed!
Our lungs have the capacity to take in and out of three to
four liters of air at a time. However, most of us take only half to one liter
of air in and out. This means that we use only one fourth of the capacity of
our lungs and we are unable to use three fourth of the capacity. We all usually
perform shallow respiration. Apart from humans, other beings cannot make any
change in the process of giving up their comfortable breathing. Whereas,
through human effort, revolutionary changes can be made in our personality,
health, age-force, ability, self-power and concentration by making changes in
breathing and exhaling. Pranayama is the technique of making scientific changes
in respiratory function.
Why is it important to hold breath?
A normal person exhales 15 times every minute. In this way he processes breathing and exhales approximately 21,600 times throughout the day. The dog breathes about 60 times a minute. On the other hand, elephant and snake and tortoise breathe 2 to 3 times every minute. Due to the quick breathing and exhaling, the life range of the dog is only 10-12 years, while the age range of tortoise, elephant and snake is more than about hundred years. In this way the relation between breathing and exhaling has a profound effect on our age range as well as the level of health.
Breathing and exhaling have a deep connection with our mind
and emotions. In the state of fear, anger, tension and frustration, this speed
of breathe increases. Whenever negative thoughts and tendencies come in the
mind, the pace of breathing and exhaling becomes faster.
We pay attention to everything in life, but not to the
breath. Reason, we think the breath will come on its own. The breath also comes
but what comes on its own is not complete. We should try and get into the habit
of breathing properly. If we don't do this, our 'quality of life' is spoiled.
